Senior Leadership Team
John is an engineer. He has taken this passion and has forged deep skills in the area of energy efficiency over an extensive career in industry. He has then co-created a very successful energy engineering business delivering high value add services to large energy users worldwide.
John’s background is in mechanical engineering. His early career was in operations management in process industries, assuming roles in the management of maintenance and CAPEX, for both process chemical and nutrition manufacturers. Having establish a strong pedigree here John pivoted his career to the professional services sector, at first setting up a innovative facilities management services company (AmeyIFM) for heavily regulated industry, then transiting to a niche project management services business (Agility) again dedicated to large industry in Ireland. Out of the meeting of Agility and Industrial Utilities Ltd (IUL) then EM3 was born.
John met Donall O’Brien the MD of IUL during assignments for several multinational pharmaceutical companies. IUL provided energy consultancy services. The two principals spotted an opportunity to supply an new type of energy service to large energy users and so EM3 was created. EM3 raison d’etre is to provide enhanced value to its customers by bringing engineering expertise, with a business value focus, and a goal setting framework, leveraging off the personalities of the principals. This has informed the culture at EM3. EM3 quickly became a global business developing strong links with corporations with worldwide operations.
Both John and Donall are passionate about the development of engineers as subject matter experts, as commercially aware project managers, as agile and flexible service providers and as leaders in the whole area of energy and industrial utilities. Seeing capable engineers find a fulfilling career and then exceeding potential is a job well done.
Moreover, both remain evangelical about the common sense benefits of the application of energy efficiency, and how this fits with the imperative to transition to a sustainable future by providing the engineering roadmap to achieve this goal. The solution for industry will involve heavy lifting by experts and in EM3 they have created an ally for corporations to carry the burden of this load.
Donall O’Brien is a mechanical engineer who has dedicated most of his career to the promotion of energy efficiency in industrial facilities. Donall’s initial graduate experience was in the area of industrial refrigeration system design and installation, before taking on roles as utility system designer for large pharmaceutical and food/beverage installations. Having gained many years experience in the design and project management of industrial utility systems, Donall decided to specialise on energy efficiency and energy efficient design of such systems in 2006 when he set up Industrial Utilities Ltd. (IUL). The goal of IUL was to develop the knowledge and expertise to help industrial manufacturing organisations to reduce energy consumption. Donall worked with John Hensey MD of AKMS during assignments for several multinational pharmaceutical companies where IUL provided energy consultancy services and AKMS delivered the energy saving projects. The two principals spotted an opportunity to supply an new type of energy service to large energy users and so EM3 was created. EM3 focused on bring the opportunities that save cost, energy and carbon on industrial facilities through specialist design and construction. EM3 quickly became a global business developing strong links with corporations with worldwide operations.
Andreas Bielderman has joined EM3 as Chief Financial Officer in 2021 and is acting Operations Director since 2023. Within EM3s executive leadership team, he is responsible for scaling and professionalizing EM3s corporate functions (Accounting, Business Control, Legal, Compliance and Risk Management) and overseeing operations.
Andreas brings more than 18 years of work experience in finance, consulting, audit and management. Prior to joining EM3, he worked for large professional service multinationals like PwC, Capgemini and SHV Energy. Throughout his professional career, Andreas has always been very internationally oriented, delivering engagements in over 25 countries while living in the Netherlands, France, South Africa, India and Ireland.
Colleagues regard him as a pragmatic strategic thinker, a connector of people and teams and a professional with a high level of cultural sensitivity in relation to team dynamics as well as cultural diversity.
Finbar is an experienced Human Resources Director with over 15 years’ global HR experience across a range of industries. Finbar has significant experience in change management, employee relations, employee engagement & Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. A trained coach with ICF Finbar is passionate about creating and developing high performing and inclusive teams.
Colm is a chartered Chemical Engineer with over 30 years’ experience. Starting from a technical background he has spent the last 20 years in the commercial area looking after Sales, Marketing and Business Development across a wide range of industrial companies in the facilities, utilities and environmental services sectors. He has a keen focus on listening to client’s needs and working with them to produce a sustainable solution moving forward. He has particular expertise in the Industrial B2B sector, having worked extensively with clients in the Pharma, Life Sciences, Food and Beverage sectors.
Management Team
James Dooley is a Team Lead for the Projects Operation known for his accurate and focused approach. With a strong background in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Efficient Design & Industry Experience, James leads a diverse team of Engineers & Projects Managers to deliver Efficient, Sustainable and Reliable Technical Solutions for our customers. His ability to understand our client’s needs and create lasting partnerships set’s him apart.
Marc O’Halloran is a long-standing member of the Management Team at EM3. With a background in electrical engineering and certification as a Project Management Professional, he brings over 10 years of experience in leading, designing, and delivering energy-efficient projects. Marc excels at translating clients’ energy and climate challenges into practical service deliverables.
His passion for the continuous development of his team, coupled with his focus on engineering operational excellence, provides enhanced value to our clients across EM3’s global operations.
As US Regional Lead, Aoife Bourke, who is based in Chicago, is tasked with overseeing the delivery of energy consulting services to large industrial clients in North America. Her primary focus is helping clients achieve their climate and sustainability goals.
With an Energy Systems Engineering degree, and Certified Energy Auditor credential, she is well placed to identify and implement energy efficiency opportunities and promote continual energy improvement for her clients.
Graciano Tornero, an accomplished Senior Energy Consultant, leads as a regional head for Iberia and LATAM, driving innovative initiatives in energy efficiency and climate action. With a steadfast focus on client-centric solutions, Graciano specializes in delivering strategic and tailored approaches for diverse industries, notably Pharma, Biopharma, Food, Dairy and Nutrition sectors among others. His leadership ethos revolves around nurturing teams and developing their acumen to comprehensively understand clients’ energy and climate challenges. Through his client-oriented strategies, Graciano ensures that teams are equipped with the necessary expertise to analyze, recommend, and implement optimal energy solutions.
Carl Wood is the Regional Lead of the UK at EM3 in charge of bringing the expertise and insights that EM3 has to offer, to our client base in the UK. Carl has over six years of experience as an Energy Engineer working within the UK private & public sectors, helping companies to identify and implement energy and carbon reduction projects that align with their sustainability targets. With his experience in heat pumps, CHPs, HVAC, Steam Boilers, Lighting, and energy audits, Carl brings his passion and enthusiasm for engineering the most efficient solution to every project he is involved in.
Peter is an engineer with over 10 years’ experience in industrial energy management. He has lead the development of the Energy Management Service at EM3 from it commencement working with large industrial energy users to identify and monitor their energy performance, establish and achieve their targets and objectives. As a Certified Energy Auditor Peter has a systematic approach to identify and implement opportunities through energy auditing EED, EXEED and M&V. Peter has implemented and managed energy management programs to ISO50001 in over 50 Large industrial energy users globally, working with customers to tune their energy management systems to their organisational needs to get results in the form of energy efficiency improvements, costs reductions and carbon savings.

Katie has a wide range of experience in business development, sales, marketing and customer success and has implemented successful sales and marketing strategies, achieving revenue forecasts. She joined EM3 at the beginning of 2023 having previously worked in the area of Environmental, Health & Safety software solutions for large industrial organisations operating in highly regulated industries. Katie brings professionalism, energy and creativity to the EM3 team. With a Masters in International Business and over 15 years’ of experience, Katie strives to drive business growth by achieving excellent results and generating long-term value for both our clients and our organisation.
Dave Cotterell is a senior Mechanical & Energy Engineer with a long career specialising in Energy Efficient and Decarbonisation Projects, Design, Audits & Consulting. With a strong background in System & Process Design and over 15 years’ of experience, Dave has successfully Designed & Built hundreds of energy efficient solutions for complex technical challenges. He is well-versed in a variety of industries and across the globe.
Mitch Carr is an IT leader specialising in digital development and innovation. With a background in data science, artificial intelligence and software development, Mitch has led the development of EM3’s SAPERA energy management solution. He is well-versed in multiple programming languages with extensive experience in data engineering and cloud based architecture.
Sean Sirr is a Senior Manager of Innovation at EM3 specialising in Energy and Carbon Reduction Strategies, Energy Efficient Design and Energy Performance Optimisation. He is a Certified Energy Manager, certified lead auditor and is registered to deliver compliance audits in Ireland, UK and Germany.
Sean has a background in civil engineering project management before moving into energy and sustainability in 2010. He has worked as an Energy and Utilities Manager in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device sectors as an SME for clean utilities.
He is experienced in ISO50001 working with clients to gain and retain accreditation since 2015.
Tim Dorrington is a senior energy consultant, lead auditor and team leader. Tim manages a team of engineers dedicated to the de-carbonisation of industry through electrification, Biofules and energy efficiency measures. Tim’s has previously worked in the construction industry as a project manager.
Paula Holton is working as HR Lead in EM3 for 3 years having started as Business Planner. Paula has been involved in EM3 projects such as Engineers Ireland CPD accreditation, as well as supporting talent recruitment, onboarding and learning & development for EM3 colleagues.
Niamh Hogan is the financial controller with EM3 for over 7 years and joined the SHV Ethics & compliance team in 2021 as EM3 E&C officer. Niamh joined EM3 in 2016 having previously worked in private practice as accountant and auditor. She has a vast and deep knowledge about the company and it’s processes related to accounting and statutory requirements.
Jimmy O’Sullivan is an experienced energy consultant specialising in unlocking energy efficiency and enabling decarbonisation for the industrial sector. Jimmy has over 10 years experience, kicking off his career as a design engineer with a focus on energy efficiency; setting the foundations of becoming an experienced energy engineer and consultant.
Jimmy has worked on a broad array of projects ranging from energy audits, climate action strategies, ISO50001, energy modelling, renewable gas, and more. He is well versed across the energy spectrum from supply side to demand side.
Jimmy leads a team of dedicated energy engineers across an array of energy and climate action projects for numerous clients.
Shane Marren is a Senior Energy Consultant with 8 years’ experience in Industrial Energy Management & Efficiency. As a Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) with the Association of Energy Engineers, Shane has experience in large industrial energy audits and developing carbon reduction strategies, primarily in the Biopharmaceutical, Medical Device and Food sectors. Shane has a strong working knowledge of industrial utility and facility systems as well as Project Management experience delivering decarbonisation and energy efficient solutions on client sites.
As the US Projects Lead, Rebecca Nolan is responsible for the delivery of energy efficiency projects across North America. Rebecca leverages her strong background in mechanical engineering and industry experience to identify & implement decarbonization projects. Rebecca also has experience leading industrial energy audits across the pharmaceutical, medical device and food & beverage sectors.
Rebecca currently leads a growing team of engineers to both deliver de-carbonization projects & further grow EM3’s footprint in the US.
