EM3 has been shortlisted as a finalist in the SEAI Sustainable Energy Awards 2016 for the innovative approach to energy management and the specialist energy management service which has been constructed to meet the demands of ambitious energy saving industrial facilities and to achieve best-in-class ISO 50001 compliance. The unique aspect to the EM3 service is that all of the site data is analysed on a weekly basis by specialist energy engineers and weekly reports on the findings are action-ed to the Significant Energy User (SEU) owners in the facility. The action list is tracked and closed out in accordance with the requirements of ISO 50001. The use of specialist engineers to format and analyse energy data into cost saving actions, in a cost effective manner, allows the energy team on the site to concentrate on implementation of solutions to the issues raised and driving energy performance improvement initiatives on the site. All too often facility energy management personnel are not using energy monitoring systems effectively due to the volume of data and the fact that energy management is rarely given the internal resources it requires.
The service offering includes the use of specifically developed Innovative tools including Energy Metric Maps which allow the site to map out the best metrics for the sites energy performance and document the inputs and outputs as a structured visual document. Innovative metrics have been developed to allow energy performance to be distilled into a user-friendly format which simplifies the performance for even the most complex of industrial processes. Multinational sites are using the metrics as a bench-marking system to compare energy performance of common metrics across multiple sites. Custom-built metrics for compressed air, refrigeration, HVAC, Drying Processes, Evaporators and nitrogen generation have been designed into the weekly energy analysis reports, and all metrics are represented hourly for the week. This brings a level of detail and granularity to energy management in an industrial facility which can rarely be achieved on a consistent basis by in-house personnel.
The growth of EM3 which commenced this tailored service in 2014 is a testament to the success of the service itself. We have recently added our first site in the United States which is enabled through the sharing of energy and production data through cloud platforms, with the weekly reporting and performance analysis being carried out by the EM3 engineers in Ireland. This reinforces the view that Ireland is a centre of excellence for energy management and we can export our expertise to replicate the successes of Irish Industry.
EM3 are proud to have been selected as finalists for the energy awards and look forward to the Gala Event on 9th November in Dublin where the winners will be announced.
Our long time partner Abbott is also a finalist in the SEAI Energy Awards 2016 Leadership category. Abbott, Bord na Móna and EM3’s collaborative approach under the EEOS scheme have resulted in significant energy, cost and CO2 savings on 6 sites in Ireland.
